The support of the “JAMAICA 2000” team will fast track setting up links. Money is now available through th eConnection Classrooms programme for teacher exchanges. Each school is able to name an international links co-ordinator and we can work with that person or the Head Teacher/Deputy and set up links.
For UK schools the opportunity to have international links is now seen as an expectation and to learn about Jamaica is very timely – in th erun up to the Commonwealth games, as this is a legacy of the 50th Anniversary of Jamaican Independence and of course Jamaica’s achievements and profile at the Olympic Games!
For Jamaican schools it is a good time for children to learn about the UK today, as the country that will again be hosting the Jamaican athletes and one of the countries which has become home to many people of Jamaican heritage.
Spicy Fingers, one of the team of Jamaican Cultural Artistes based in UK entertained the invited guests at the Jamaica Training camp in Birmingham, but no - we didn't get to see the Lightening Bolt!
